What is Play Therapy?
Many parents wonder how play therapy can help their child. Play therapy is a specialized counseling approach that allows children to express thoughts, feelings, and experiences through play—their natural language of communication.
Driven by connection
Because children often lack the words to explain complex emotions, play therapy provides a safe and supportive environment where they can process challenges such as anxiety, behavioral concerns, grief, trauma, family transitions, and social difficulties.
At our Christian Counseling Center in College Station, TX, play therapy is grounded in evidence-based practices while honoring biblical values and principles. Through carefully selected toys, activities, and therapeutic techniques, children can build emotional resilience, develop healthy coping skills, improve relationships, and grow in confidence.
Parents are an important part of the healing process. We work closely with families to provide guidance, support, and practical tools that help children thrive both at home and in everyday life.
If you're looking for Christian play therapy in College Station, our compassionate therapists are here to help your child experience healing, growth, and hope.
Not all play therapy is equal.
In the world of best practices for therapy specifically designed for Children, the “Registered Play Therapist” is the gold standard for verifying professionals that continue to meet consistent professional standards.
Registered Play Therapists are initially required to obtain 150 hours of additional education in coursework that is specifically designed to specialize in children’s mental health needs as well as 350 hours of supervised direct client hours under the guidance of an RPT- Supervisor.
In order to maintain this designation, each RPT must complete 24 hours of “Association for Play Therapy” approved coursework every two years to stay on the front lines of excellent care.
Upward Counseling Collective is proud to be the home of Juliana Long LPC, RPT.
